History

Love Gods In Leisure Suits They’re the Dukes of Dacron, the Rastas of Rayon, the Princes of Polyester, and posibly the most flammable band in Florida - they’re the LOVEGODS IN LEISURE SUITS. Originally formed in 1987, the band’s discography includes Life in a Dacron Hell cassette (1987), Come Here Often? LP (1989), and Groove On It LP (1991). All released on Space Fish Records and all garnering favorable reviews from numerous publications, including: Alternative Press, Option, Splatter Effect, Flipside, and Maximum Rock ‘n’ Roll.

The band also has a well-deserved reputation for a wild stage show that includes go-go dancers, giant props, and yards and yards of polyester. Preferring not to categorize their music, the band describes their sound as a “festering, mutated, quagmire of boogie-down polyester punk and blues.”  They like to think that “if Satan had a disco, we’d be the house band.”

"They are an invigorating, irreverent, lascivious and blasphemous laugh riot, but they rock too damn hard to be dismissed as a mere "comedy act"... they’re like Nolan Ryan and pork rinds - a national treasure.”  - ALTERNATIVE PRESS

Their  music actually reflects a wide variety of musical influences - funk, hardcore, blues, garage rock, country, and of course, disco. Lyrically they deal with a wide range of topics: censorship, religion, sex, dating, and more. Even the name of the band is a sarcastic statement about the macho womanizing attitudes prevalent in bars and dance clubs. Although the band has been described as “a blasphemous laugh riot”, they rock too hard to be dismissed as a mere comedy act. Vocalist Michael Bales explains, “It’s entertainment. Both the musical and visual aspects of our performance are equally important. There is a longing for the zaniness and pizzazz of the seventies to combat the repression and oppression of today’s uptight era. But beyond our outlandish attire and funny lyrics, we’re serious about what we do. There is a lot of intensity and conviction in our show. It’s kinda like Linda Blair in the movie Roller Boogie - our goal is to entertain and leave a lasting impression. The main factor for us is having fun, and if you learn something along the way, great!”
